Parenting Classes Required in Divorce and Custody Cases

CHILD CUSTODY CASES AND PARENTING CLASSES IN MASSACHUSETTS

When child custody is at issue in a Massachusetts family law proceeding, which occurs in divorce, separate support, and parentage cases, parents must participate in parental education programs.

The requirement for these parenting courses is Standing Order 1-99. The theory behind the requirement of these parenting courses is not to punish the child’s parents; the purpose is to educate the parents on how to co-parent the child and look after the child’s best interests rather than the parent’s own personal needs.

For additional information about child custody and visitation, including physical and legal custody issues, contact our office today for a free, private consultation.

Our firm serves Boston as well as all courts in Bristol County, including the New Bedford, Fall River and Taunton courthouses.  We also serve all courts in Plymouth County.
